It has been 10 years and I hope we have 10 more good years ahead
Another eventful year for Yellow Ribbon Project. This is a very special year because we are celebrating our 10th Anniversary. Many people had worked very hard to make this national campaign a success. I am looking forward to another 10 more good years ahead. Below are some pictures taken with people who are instrumental and hardcore supporters of YRP. Thank you peeps.
Mr. Chua Kin Kiat was our former Director of Prisons and he is a visionary leader. Learnt quite a few things about leadership and organisational development from this man. I wish him good health and many wonderful years ahead.
Leonie is like the 'mother' of YRP. She and her team 'aka children of YRP' ensured YRP events are executed well every year...for the past 10 years. Talk about passion and commitment. It's my honour to support and work with her (and her team) on YRP for the past 10 years. 10 more good years ahead.
YC, my fellow OD practitioner and professional. Together with my OD classmates, they are always very supportive of what we do in YRP.
Members of the IBM Singapore Ring 115 Magicians. They have been our strong supporter since 2009 when I was the chairperson for the inaugural Yellow Ribbon Run . Thanks for making YRP 'MAGICAL'
Another 2 very passionate supporters of second chances. Tim Leo is our Chief Psychologist in SPS and Matthew is responsible for all the commercial media and corporate relations strategies for YRP. Both of them play very important roles in YRP. Great team members to have.
Lastly my buddy and squad mate Andrew. One of the Directors in SCORE. Making his best contribution and I am sure YRP will be much better in 2014 with him around.

Simple Rules I live by...
Read this article and it resonated with me. These are simple rules I live by as well.
My take...
1. I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.
Yes, be true to yourself. Be aware that people are not interested in you. As such, don't become who others or society wants you to become. It's o.k. to be who you are and be true to yourself. You don't have to fit in all the time. You will be happier. :)
2. I wish I didn’t work so hard.
I realised this simple life rule several years back. When I'm in office, I give everything I have, but when I'm home or out of office (after office hours), I will focus on things that matter to me, e.g. family, friends and my passions. At the end of the day (on my deathbed), I know I will never be too concern about the emails I have not answered.
3. I wish I’d had the courage to express my feelings.
Express yourself freely. Asians tend to be shy. Well, perhaps not to all. But I freely express my feelings and love for people I care about. Do it before it is too late.
4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.
I always keep in touch with several close friends intentionally. If you don't plan for it intentionally, you will never have time to do it. Friends accept you for who you are. If your friends are true to you, they will never judge.
5. I wish that I had let myself be happier.
People often ask me how I am able to do so many things, have so many passions and yet I can spend so much time with my family. My answer is "Why not?" If you have a deeper 'YES' inside, you will always have time. If you are clear about what you want out of life, your meaning and mission, you will always have time. When you are clear of 'the end in mind', you will always have time.
Life is a choice. It is MY life. I will be intentional about it....Always. :)

MOTHER’S LOVE...heart touching story
After having a lot of success in his career a young man felt an urge to repay back to his mother for all that she had done for him.
So he asked her, “Mom, what can I give you? What can I do for you? I sincerely want to repay you for all the sacrifices you have made for me and for all the love you have showered upon me.”
Mother looked surprised and said, “Why do you think about it. It was my duty so I did it, you don’t have to repay me. Even if you want to, there is no way a man can ever repay his mother.”
Despite her continuous refusal to ask for anything,he continued to persist. To put an end to the discussion, she said, “All right. If you must, then tonight you sleep on my bed, with me, just as you used to when you were a baby.”
He said, “That’s a strange thing to ask for, but if it pleases you, I will.”
As soon as he fell asleep, the mother got up and brought a bucket of water. She poured a mug full of water on his side. Feeling disturbed by the wetness under him, in his sleep he moved away to the other side of the bed. As he settled down, his mother poured another mug of water on the other side. In his slumber he tried to find space towards the foot post of the bed.
Sometime later he woke up feeling that this part of the bed too was damp. He got up and saw his mother, with the mug in her hand. He asked angrily, “What are you doing mother? Why don’t you let me sleep? How do you expect me to sleep on a wet bed?”
Mother said, “I slept with you, when you wetted the bed in the night. I changed your clothes and moved you to the dry part of the bed, while I slept on the wet side. You wanted to repay me. Can you sleep here even for one night with me on a damp bed? If you can, I’ll take it that you have repaid me.”
Moral: Of all the debts in the world, the one that can never be repaid is the one you owe to your mother. You can never repay the love, care and time your mother gave to bring you up. You are a part of her flesh and blood; don’t forget this, because she never ever forgets it.
Be a giver not an acquirer, especially with your parents. there is a lot to give, besides money.

Long Distance Endurance Ride on a Cool Saturday Morning
A wonderful 5.30 am ride with my ride buddies Desmond and Matthew. Weather was excellent and we had a great time. Decided to do a complete coverage from Jalan Lembah Bedok (JLB) to Changi Village (CV) and Gardens By The Bay (GBTB). I estimated the distance to be about 100 km +/- and it will be a 4-hour ride (excluding breaks). Ride buddies broke off after breakfast at the underground tunnel along East Coast Park leading to Bedok PCN. I did a solo from East Coast Park all the way to GBTB and back to JLB without stopping for any breaks (except for a quick photo shoot above).
Our route today:
Jalan Lembah Bedok -> along Bedok PCN -> East Coast Park -> Changi Coastal Road -> Changi Village for BF (21 km) -> (no break from here onwards. All the way) East Coast Park (ride buddies broke off) ->Gardens By The Bay (50 km) ->Back to Bedok PCN -> Jalan Lembah Bedok (72 km).
From my Garmin 810 Map
Pace was good. My heartbeat was at max zone most of the time. It was a good workout. My ride timing estimation was spot on but the total distance (72 km) covered was much lesser than my estimation. Strangely, this morning's ride was slightly more strenuous than my round island trip (95 km) I did on 7 Sep. The last 5 km was a struggle because of a very bad cramp on my left leg and abdominal muscles. Endured the pain and did what I could to complete the route.
On hindsight, I think should have taken some breaks along the way after BF from CV to GBTB and back to JLB. Too 'siong' to go all the way without stopping. This was because I had a hydration pack (Camelbak Lobo) with me so there was no need to stop for water. Further, dark clouds were looming and I had to be back home by 11 a.m. I was pleasantly surprise that my bumps are still OK :)
A great workout with wonderful company. Looking forward to my next biking adventure.
p/s: lost my favourite pair of cycling gloves (right side) when I took it off during my toilet break along Changi Park (towards CV). When I left the toilet, I realised my right hand glove was missing. Went back to look for it but could not find it. Don't ask me why, I am still clueless :(

Wet Wet Wet
Started off the weekday ride with ride buddy with excellent weather. Managed to cover a total of 29 km in relatively good pace from East Coast F2 Carpark to Gardens By The Bay.
Ternie was all ready to give his best. With shiny and cleaned drivetrain, I expected Ternie to deliver excellent performance. Ternie did not disappoint me. Ride and gear shifts were smooth.
On our way back, it started to pour very heavily. We had to take cover and waited for the heavy rain and thunder to go away. Check out those reflective spokes!
Instead of waiting for the rain to stop completely, I decided that it was an excellent opportunity to test out my rain kit. My light and bright yellow rain coat was excellent. Managed to keep myself dry, comfortable and very visible at night.
The helmet rain cover proved to be a very useful item as well. My head was completely dry while riding in heavy rain. Love the reflective strip that helps to keep me visible at night. Highly recommended. At least you must keep your head dry if you are riding in wet weather conditions.
You can purchase this Helmet Rain Cover (US$8) here:
Looking forward to my Saturday long distance challenge. Hope to cover over 100 km with an average speed of 22-25 km/h.

Bought item here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/141047897576?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
Pretty easy to install and it clips on well on the spokes of your rim. Hmmm...need to do something on that rusty spot!
Feedback from some users indicated that the tubes can fall off after some time esp. during bumpy rides. As such, decided to secure it further with a simple 3M scotch tape. A simple solution.
Look at how they glow under my camera flash. If this is something useful for you. Get it on ebay.
